Yongjae Kim is a Korean-born, New York based artist. His moody, hyper-realist paintings capture spaces and people in urban settings that recall Old Master Dutch genre scenes by masters such as Vermeer or the melancholy 20th century paintings of Edward Hopper. Yet, Kim’s paintings are thoroughly contemporary, depicting specific recognizable settings and feature decidedly modern subjects.
Kim was educated in Korea and the United States, receiving his B.F.A at the Seoul National University, South Korea and his M.F.A. from Pratt Institute, NY. He has exhibited both in the United States and internationally and is recipient of numerous awards and honors. His most recent show is Cityscapes & Urban, Galerie Mokum, Amsterdam, Netherland. 2021.
